CTU repeats as SCUAA regional champs

-

The Cebu Technological University (CTU) successfully defended its crown in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Regional Meet over the weekend at the Bohol Island State University in Calape, Bohol.

CTU rounded up 122 golds, 105 silvers, and 43 bronzes to grab back-to-back titles in the annual sports meet, while Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) came in second with 103 gold, 62 silver, and 18 bronze medals.

“I did not expect that we will win a straight title. We are very happy that we are able to beat NORSU. Hopefully, we can also make it to the national finals because that is our main goal,” CTU sports director Nemia Zamora said.

Cebu Normal University (CNU) finished third with a 7160-63 gold-silver-bronze medals count followed by Bohol Island State University (BISU) with a 33-60-116 tally. Siquijor State College (SSC) was a distant fifth with only four golds, four silvers, and eight bronzes.

Zamora said they earned the bulk of their golds from arnis (27), athletics (20), and swimming (13). She is hopeful that they can deliver the same good performance in the national finals later this month.

More than 500 athletes from the five state colleges and universities (SUC) will done the flag of Central Visayas in the SCUAA National Games on February 18-23 in Sibalom, Antique. —
