Reaction to TF column

Dear Ms. Annie Fe Perez,

I read your column and it follows that if we have a leader who has a political will like our president and all the leaders of the government down to the barangay councilor follows then the Filipino people can be disciplined like the people in Singapore and Davao. I have been in Davao many times, that’s the reason I include it as disciplined people living in that part of Mindanao. You cannot see pictures of politicians posted along the road near a newly concreted road or a newly-completed bridge or any new government projects but only this “This is where your taxes go BIR.”

Had the mayor during his last tenure for 9 years implemented the counterflow, then maybe at this point in time drivers are already disciplined. Better late than never. Counterflow not only avoids traffic accidents but helps easing traffic congestion.

I hope the good mayor also enforces the no parking on the new concreted four-lane streets wherein both outer lanes are being used as free parking by big business establishments. Try to pass in the morning of the adjacent road fronting Robinson Galleria leading to Roble Shipping and there you can witness the two outer lanes occupied by big trucks. Try also to pass in the morning the road from Pier 3 passing the Philippine Coast Guard, another adjacent road leading to Pier 4 and Roble Shipping, there are big trucks occupying at times two lanes as parking space. All these roads were widened to make it four lanes to ease traffic but upon completion, the taxpayers money spent went to nothing, since it benefited only the big establishments.

One big company dealing with cement business was closed by the mayor and another lechon company was also closed because of business permit problem. It’s a matter of political will.

Respectfully suggest to Ms. Annie to check those areas I mentioned above and correct me if I am wrong. Maybe in your next column it should be titled: Traffic hazards!!!

All the best,

Alfredo Saso
