The Cebu provincial government is planning to put up a multipurpose gym for Capitol's sports activities.

The P20 million gym will be constructed at the province-owned lot in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug.

Cebu Provincial Sports Commission executive director Ramil Abing said the budget was sourced out from the allocations of the Office of the Governor. The gym has a size "equivalent to two basketball courts."

Abing said it will serve as training ground not only for the capitol employees but also for the athletes in the province.

"Kitang mga empleyado diri sa kapitolyo ug ang grassroots athletes namo, anha namo i-train diha. Like basketball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton tanan nga pwede maduwa diha sa sulod," Abing said.

He said the project engineering details are now being worked out by the Provincial Engineering's Office. The construction is expected to start within this year.

Abing said there is also a need to have an "arena" in Cebu city for big international sporting events.

" Kinahanglan gyud na siya sa Cebu kanang arena nga dako nga international standard. Being a city and province kinahanglan gyud na nato," he said.

According to Abing, organizers of big sporting events like Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games prefer Lapu-Lapu City instead of Cebu because of the Hoops Dome.

Abing is hoping that the plan of a private sector to put up a sports arena at the South Road Properties will push through.
