Village chief’s son eludes arrest in buy-bust

- — Iris Mariani

The son of a village chief in Talisay City eluded arrest while his two companions were arrested in a buy-bust operation Saturday afternoon.

Juniel Cabiluna, son of Manipis Barangay Captain Emma Cabiluna, managed to escape after he noticed that he was selling shabu to a police decoy. His cohorts, Robin Alfornon and Jupiter Silva, were nabbed.

The police conducted the operation at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Sitio YMCA, Barangay Manipis, Talisay City.

They allegedly seized three small packs of suspected shabu from Alfornon and a .357 caliber handgun from Silva. According to Talisay City Police Chief Supt. Marlu Conag, they received numerous reports about Cabiluna’s illegal drugs activity. His customers are reportedly habal-habal drivers in the area. Cabiluna was among the subjects of their Oplan Tokhang operation but he did not surrender.

Emma admitted that her son is a drug user but denied that he sells drugs. She revealed she has asked her son several times to stop using drugs but he did not listen.

She recalled that her son started using drugs when he was 27 because of his friends. After Juniel met his live in partner, they lived in Barangay Kantabako in Toledo City. Emma lamented that Juniel’s partner is also a drug user. Emma is willing to persuade her son to surrender. But she believes that the operation has political color.
