Man wanted for rape arrested
A man sought by police for allegedly raping a neighbor was nabbed by operatives of the Alcoy Police Station in his house in Barangay Pugalo, Alcoy, Cebu, on Saturday evening.
The suspect was identified by the police as Nicolas Payopanin, 22, alias “Nico.” The warrant for Payopanin’s arrest was issued by Judge Francis Rainer Navarete of the 7th Judicial Region Branch 26, Argao.
Senior Police Officer 1 Junalyn Entrina of the Women and Children Protection Desk said the Payopanin was accused of raping the victim, a married 20-year-old woman, last August.
Entrina said that the victim told the police that the suspect went to her house drunk that night in August while her husband was not around and abused her.
"Wala na siya makapangayo og tabang kay layo kaayo ang ilang mga silingan," said Entrina.
The suspect is now detained in the Alcoy Police Station lock-up cell.
Meanwhile, an alleged robber with a pending warrant of arrest with the Liloan police was nabbed in Barangay Sirao, Cebu City, on Saturday afternoon.
Liloan policemen led by Chief Inspector Randy Korret together with the operatives of Crime Investigation and Detection Management Group received information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect, Weldie Judilla Ponce, 33, in Sirao after almost year of hiding and immediately conducted a joint operation.
It was Judge Jerry Dicdican of Danao City Regional Trial Court Branch 25 who issued the warrant of arrest.
