Star Cinema returns to bold genre

-

How far will you go to fight for love? Star Cinema poses this question in its latest movie offering, “Sin Island,” a different kind of love story starring Coleen Garcia, Xian Lim and Nathalie Hart, which yesterday began screening outside the Philippines via TFC@ theMovies.

This is the first in a long time that Star Cinema produced a movie this bold. Under the direction of Gino Santos, known for his brand of edgy filmmaking, with a screenplay by Jancy Nicolas, “Sin Island” comes out as a sexy romance film that seeks to find out if a marriage can truly survive two infidelities.

The story revolves around picture-perfect married couple David (Xian) and Kanika (Coleen) whose paradise will be put to the test as Kanika enters an affair shortly after the career of David went in a downward spiral.

As David discovers Kanika’s transgressions, he flees to Sinilaban Island where he meets and engages in a carnal affair with Tasha (Nathalie).

Despite their mistakes, David and Kanika decide to repair their relationship, but Tasha refuses to let go of David.

The film may fall under the sexy genre, but Nicolas says it is not lacking in values that viewers could learn from. “It talks about redeeming love, redeeming a marriage, and fighting for it. More than the sexiness and darkness of its genre, it’s a story of a marriage,” he explains.

Coleen is successfully positioned as one of the industry’s hottest and most prized talents of her generation, whose body of work both on television and in film continues to grow.

“Sin Island” is Coleen’s fourth movie under the direction of Santos, from “Hashtag Y,” “Ex with Benefits,” to “Love Me Tomorrow.”

“This is the sexiest movie I did, but not the sexiest role I’ve done since I’m married in this film. However, this is the bravest and hardest film that I’ve done,” Coleen reveals.

It is also worth noting how Xian takes his acting skills a notch higher as he portrays the character of David in this brave film, which is his most mature role to date.

“Definitely, people will see me do scenes which are different from what they are used to seeing me doing. I guess I’m pushing my capabilities as an actor and my ability to tackle different roles,” Xian says.

Also perceived to be the next big thing in the industry is Nathalie, who is gaining mainstream popularity with her stunning looks coupled with her acting prowess.

“Sin Island” marks her first film under Star Cinema, which she says is more than just a sexy film. “It’s not about being seductive and showing some skin – it has a story,” she explains.

“Sin Island” also stars TJ Trinidad, Lito Pimentel, Ricardo Cepeda, Marina Benipayo, Bernard Palanca, Joyce Burton, Dominic Ochoa, Thou Reyes, Charlie Dizon, McCoy de Leon, Desiree del Valle and Nikki Valdez.

Is there really a distinction between emotional and physical cheating? Is a marriage worth restoring if both husband and wife ruined it? How should a millennial couple deal with infidelity?

Find out all the answers in this unapologetic, bold, daring and scandalous adult love story, “Sin Island,” which will also be screened in Papua New Guinea, US, Canada, Saipan, Singapore and soon in other countries.
