Cops nab Tuburan’s 10th most wanted

- Q. Moradas/GAN — Ermida

After hiding from authorities for more than a decade, Tuburan, Cebu's 10th most wanted person finally fell into the hands of the local police.

Baldwin Paling, 35, who is wanted for frustrated murder, was arrested in Barangay Kabangkalan, Tuburan last Saturday evening.

Senior Police Officer 1 Pablo Arnoco of the Tuburan Police Station said a concerned citizen reported to their station about the suspect's presence in the area.

Armed with a warrant of arrest issued by Toledo City Regional Trial Court Branch 59 Judge Gaudioso Villarin, Arnoco and his team proceeded to the area.

The suspect was reportedly carrying his child while on his way home after attending a fiesta in the neighboring sitio.

Arnoco said that Paling has been hiding from the authorities for almost 14 years already after he stabbed a certain Marvin Canuday after the latter allegedly tried to harass his female friends in 2004.

Arnoco added that they have been tracking Paling for several years already but the latter was very elusive.

In fact, it was the third operation they have conducted to arrest the suspect until on Saturday where he was successfully intercepted while on his way home.

Allegedly, the suspect was also involved in other petty crimes in their barangay.

Arnoco said that the suspect did not resist arrest and voluntarily surrendered to them during the serving of the warrant.

Paling is now temporarily detained at the Tuburan Police Station while waiting for the proper disposition of the issuing court. A P200,000-bail was recommended for his temporary release.
