Cebu City in particular recorded a 6.8 percent rise in available jobs from January to May this year.

Mandaue City, the province's industrial center, followed Cebu City in terms of job location.

In terms of job vacancies, the sales, marketing and retail sector has the most vacancies, followed by accounting/ finance, BPO (business process outsourcing), IT (information technology) and engineering.

Chiongbian also noted a rising demand for skilled and technical jobs in Cebu led by drivers.

Other in-demand technical jobs include automotive/mechanical, electrical, technician and machine operators.

The report showed some of Cebu's specialists in junior executive and managerial levels actually earn more compared to the average of their specializations nationally.

Cebu's banking (P30,415 average) and PR/ communications (P27,125) specialists in junior executive level earn more compared to the national averages of P27,188 and P26,948 of the same specializations, respectively.

The report also said specialists in IT and education are now more indemand than their tech support and telesales counterparts, the latter seen as traditionally more employable by BPO companies.
