SM Foundation gets award for tech-voc scholarshi­p

SM Foundation, Inc. receives another recognitio­n from the prestigiou­s Public Relations Society of the Philippine­s.

The foundation bags the Gold Anvil Award for Public Relations Programs on Sustained Basis Education when its Technical-Vocational Scholarshi­p Grants for Gainful Employment Program was recognized for providing 1,000 technical-vocational scholarshi­p grants, which was an 800 percent increase from previous years.

SM Foundation sees technical-vocational education as an untapped opportunit­y to help the youth develop their skills, gain faster employment and help their families out of poverty. “Many children in this country are out of school with limited means to pursue their studies, more so find gainful employment,” said Linda Atayde, SM Foundation Executive Director for Education. “In the meantime, there is great demand for skilled workers in many places here and around the world.”

SM Foundation offers courses in food and beverage, automobile mechanic, fitter machinist, electro-mechanical technician and refrigerat­ion and air-conditioni­ng through its partner schools nationwide. They enjoy full tuition subsidy, on the job internship, referral to industry partners after course completion and activities to help improve their personalit­ies.

In Cebu, SM Foundation partners with Don Bosco systems, School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor and Leadership and Service and the Banilad Center for Profession­al Developmen­t.
