CYBL Summer League kicks off

The CYBL Summer League kicked off over the weekend with twelve games marking the start of another annual summer tournament at the Sacred Heart SchoolAten­eo de Cebu Mango Avenue campus gym. Games were played in the Under 12, 15 and 18 age groups in this pre-season tournament.

In the Under 12 age group, Don Bosco Technical College Cebu trounced CLBA, 26-14, as St. Benedict Child Education Centre toppled One on One-D, 5439.

In Under 15 games, Don Bosco thumped One on OneA, 39-23. USC North outplayed CLBA, 51-34. USPF defeated Labangon, 59-42. Knox Basic Basketball of Carcar won over Sunsport, 50-45.

In the Under 18 age group, CLBA defeated USPF, 46-34. One on One-A topped SCSIT, 68-52. WJC crushed Labangon, 57-40. Mt. Olives School outplayed Sunsport, 64-28. Labangon outhustled One on One-B, 57-21.

The CYBL Summer League is the annual summer tournament of the Cebu Youth Basketball League and features three age groups: Under 12, 15 and 18.

A total of 48 teams signed up for the tournament, featuring a mix of ballclubs and school-based teams. Leading the pack are age- group powerhouse­s UV, SHS-Ateneo, USC, USPF, Don Bosco and SWU-PHINMA.Various ballclubs or training camps are also competing: Sunsport, One on One, Coach Leo Basketball Academy, and rookie teams Knox Basic Basketball of Carcar. Ballclubs from Labangon, Punta Princesa and Compostela are also taking part. The start-up program of Sisters of Mary School-Boystown and Batang Pinoy will also compete.

Games will be played through the week and will wrap up in mid-June; before classes resume. —
