Solar firm appoints new board director
Solar energy solutions provider UGE Philippines has appointed sports leader Ramon Fernandez to the company’s Board of Directors.
“We are very excited to have Ramon join our board,” said Tyler Adkins, President of UGE Philippines. “Ramon is a leader in the Philippines and he understands the power we have to change the country’s reliance on expensive and harmful fossil fuels. His vast experiences from the PBA to the Philippine Sports Commission have helped him to form intimate connections with fans across the Philippines and he is just the industry disruptor that solar energy deserves.”
Ramon Fernandez, also known as ‘Don Ramon’ or ‘El Presidente, is the greatest basketball player and certainly the best and most revolutionary player at the center position produced by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is the all-time record holder for most achievements made in the history of the PBA, voted number 1 of the 40 greatest players of the PBA, and inducted to the Hall of Fame. He is currently a commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission and previously served as a commissioner of the United Regional Basketball League and the Metropolitan Basketball Association.
Fernandez first became involved with UGE in 2015. Driven by the continually worsening environmental crisis, he was seeking opportunities for renewable energy advocacy when a third party organization introduced him to UGE. Seeing a chance to make a real impact by tapping into the company’s solar expertise and leveraging his own leadership positioning, it was a perfect partnership. Fernandez signed as a director of UGE Philippines in May, 2018.
UGE is an international solar company for the commercial and industrial sector with more than 600 projects completed worldwide, totaling 360 MW of clean energy. UGE Philippines is a subsidiary of UGE International created to help combat the nation’s very high electricity rates which are some of the highest rates in all of Asia.
Taking advantage of the sunny skies and continued improvements to solar technology, the company offers its clients a fully financed solution, so they can install a solar system with no cash out and simply save money on electricity bills. The company opened its office in Cebu City in November 2015.
