Baby Lancers reach finals

points as the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers ousted the
Hotel FortunaUniversity of Cebu
(UC) Junior Webmasters, 101-90, to book the remaining
finals ticket in the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation,
Inc. (CESAFI) Partner's Cup last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
High-leaping forwards Joshua Yerro and Mar Leandro Actub chipped in 15 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Baby Lancers, who set up a best-of-three title showdown with the Organique CaliforniaUniversity of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers starting this Sunday.
The Baby Lancers have still one more game left in the elimination round against the listless Cebu Institute of TechnologyUniversity (CIT-U) Wildkittens this Saturday but are already ensured of a championship berth with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Even if they will lose against the Wildkittens, which is a very remote possibility, the Baby Lancers would still advance by virtue of a simple tie against the 4-2 Junior Webmasters.
Fighting with great resolve in a sudden-death match, the Junior Webmasters appeared to have headed to victory after they established an 85-77 lead with 6:19 left to play.
The wards of coach Jover 'Brad' Samonte, however, suffered a monumental collapse, scoring only five points in the final six-minute mark of the contest.
Behind the hot hands of Cometa, Yerro and Sacayan, the Baby Lancers staged a back-breaking 21-2 run to put the game beyond reach, 9887, with only 1:05 remaining.
Overall, the Baby Lancers slammed the Junior Webmasters in the final period, 31-13.
Jasper Pacana led the Junior Webmasters with 21 points.
