A fire razed nine houses in Sitio Dasuna, Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City, around 8 a.m. yesterday.

Toledo City Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Mattreil Pono said that the fire started at the house owned by a certain Francisca Montorilla. As to the cause, he said that they are still conducting a deeper investigation since the victims are still in shock and they do not want to rely on hearsay.

"Luckily, ang hangin ato nga panahona dili kaayo kusog maong wala dayon ni kalat ang kayo,” Pono said.

The damage was estimated at P200,000 and no one was reported killed or injured.

The Toledo fire department received the alarm at 8:10 a.m. It was raised to the third alarm at around 8:57 a.m. and placed under controll at 9:10 a.m. Fire out was declared at 10 a.m.

Nine families were left homeless by the fire. Their immediate needs are now being taken care of by the barangay and the Department of Social and Welfare Development.

Private fire volunteers including those from the Carmen Copper Corp., Atlas Fertilizer, Global Business Power, and Tsuneishi Industries helped contain and put out the fire. Other neighboring towns like Balamban, Naga, and Aloguinsan also sent their fire teams to assist.

The fire team from Asturias and Tuburan also went to the place, but the fire had already been extinguished by the time they got there.
