CSBT security needs Debold’s go signal
Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will detail police officers at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) only if there is an order from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Abrugena said that the cities and towns are undermanned in terms of police uniformed personnel and they are implementing police visibility, especially in convergence areas.
“Ang bus terminal natin ay nasa jurisdiction ng Cebu City Police Office. So, ang gagawin po natin, I will be asking guidance from our regional director and I will be coordinating with the chief of police of Cebu City Police Office. Whatever actions na gagawin po natin, it will definitely be for the safety of our people,” he said.
Earlier this month, 46 unlicensed guns passed the CSBT unnoticed.
The terminal management admitted that it lacks personnel to fully implement strict security measures.
Abrugena also said that PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas can order the police to secure the Provincial Capitol.
“Whatever is the guidance of our regional director, we will abide,” he said.
Last week, an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was shot dead along a street beside the eastern wing of the Capitol building.
Despite this recent incident, Abrugena said he has yet to receive a request for police detail from the provincial government.
He said it is because the governor understands the situation the PNP is in.
Instead of guarding local chief executives, it is the primary duty of the police to guard the citizens.
He said a third-party security provider may be hired to augment security at the Capitol or the terminal.
