Age-group battle to kick off Consolacion cagefest on Aug. 18
Aspiring cagers from different age-groups will kick off the 8th Mayor Teresa ‘Nene’ P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball League this Saturday at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
The season-opening games are spread in the little mini open (13-under), mini open (15-under) and midget open (18-under) categories.
There will also be an SK (21-under), interbarangay seniors and open division but their games will start on September 2 yet in time for the formal opening ceremony of the threemonth tournament that is among the highlights of Consolacion’s annual fiesta celebration in reverence to their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29.
All 21 barangays of Consolacion are well represented.
The contenders, however, are divided into two brackets, with 13 teams for the lower land and eight for the upper land.
The centerpiece of the Mayor’s Cup is the open category that will be participated in by six to eaight teams composed of players who are registered voters of Consolacion.
Now on its eighth year, the annual cage wars still enjoys all-out support from Consolacion LGU under the flagship of Mayor Nene Alegado and Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole.
Liga ng mga Barangay President Wesley Alimoren serves as the sports committee chairman, with SB members Marilou P. Casul, Victor Maglasang, Boy Tibon, Alfie Ouano, and SK Federation President Carlos Donn Flores as co-chairpersons.
Games will be under the supervision of league Commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, who once played alongside PBA superstar Arwind ‘Spiderman’ Santos of the San Miguel Beermen during their UAAP days with the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws.—
