From the usual P10,000 bonus, the regular and casual employees of the Mandaue City government will receive a P15,000 bonus this year, said Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing.

A proposed ordinance was passed last week and is currently on third and final reading in the City Council.

He said this is in line with the city government's 49th Charter Day celebration this August 30.

"We have a significant increase sa collection efficiency nato this year, especially in the second and third quarters, so far of 2018. We're anticipating an increase in collection efficiency. As a matter of fact, we are working towards making our budget balanced for 2019. Thankfully, we've been able to hit most of our targets for the first and second quarters. The third quarter is very promising already. So, given that, we decided to increase our bonus from P10,000 to P15,000," Quisumbing said.

The city government has around 700 regular and casual employees, while there are around 2,000 job-order (JO) employees.

The JO workers, however, will not receive any bonus, as the Commission on Audit (COA) had opined that the nature of their work is only temporary in the government.

“Unfortunately, di gyud ta kahatag og bonus or benefits sa mga JO. They are not allowed by COA and of course by the law technically because they are only employed on a temporary basis,” Quisumbing added.

Quisumbing said they are hoping that the bonuses will be released around the time of the Charter Day.

On a similar report, Governor Hilario Davide III has also announced last August 6, that the regular employees of the Cebu Provincial Government will be given at least P15,000 each as their bonus as part of the 449th Cebu Provincial Charter Day.

The three recognitions received by the provincial government was the basis for the bonus such as the Seal of Good Local Governance Award 2017, the Gawad Kalasag Award received by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDDRMO), and the Bronze Award conferred to the Human Resources Management and Development Office (HRMDO).

In his anniversary message, the governor cited the three recognitions as the basis for the bonus.

This is the third time the Provincial Capitol received the Seal of Good Local Governance Award.
