In order to groom “better” neophyte police officers, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has inked a memorandum of understanding with seven different universities and schools whose students will undergo on the job training and immersion.

Police Chief Inspector Mayla Maramag, CCPO Admin Branch Chief, told The FREEMAN that the program is an opportunity to hone possible police officers, into becoming exemplary.

She said that they hope the students would learn and develop into ideal policemen.

“Apil na ni sa pag groom nila into an exemplary police officer and unsa ang right attitude to have for an exemplary police officer atong gipangita is with right attitude,” she said.

With the recent issues hounding the policeman, Maramag said that this is also in line with the efforts of internal cleansing, as they are already honing would-be policemen to follow the duties of a lawful policeman.

She also said that if the candidates do good, it will be appropriate to have them assigned in CCPO, especially that they only have about 1,200 cops to cover for 800,000 registered voters in Cebu, which mean 1 police man should cover for 667 individuals.

“Especially sa internal cleansing which is still on-going, kato nangawagtang mao ang mo-ilis, matawag sila (would be neophyte officers who underwent on-the-job training) nga right person,” she said.

Deputy City Director for Administration Artemio Ricabo echoed her statements and said that the memorandum was proposed last year.

It included the safety measures and guidelines that the school administrators and police must follow accordingly for the sake of the students.

There are five universities which offer criminology program and two senior high schools. Those in the senior high school level are only for immersion as required by the curriculum of their school.

“It (on the job training and immersion) will provide them practical field work, and familiarization sa duties of a police officer, and especially sa senior high students ma-inspire sila magpulis, pareha karon nga we are trying to attract more future cops, since underman man ta,” she said. —
