What kind of news do you proclaim?

- Tolentino Gabriel George

I was giving a workshop to a group of people and asked them this question: “What would you put up on a billboard along a highway that costs millions to advertise on if you could use it for free?”

Some of the answers I got included: “Thank God!” “Smile!” “Don’t worry. Be happy!” “My picture!” All their answers had one thing in common: They were all positive.

It’s the same concept as when I lost my voice for a few weeks. I had to carefully choose my words because every utterance counted. So I made sure not to have conversations that weren’t productive.

When we’re given only a few words, we choose them wisely. But with freedom to post what we want on our Facebook walls with unlimited words, I’m saddened that more than half the stuff I read are rants, complaints, curses. Yes, it’s true that “it’s my wall and I can say whatever I want,” But I wonder what we would post if we were only allowed a precious few characters?

Good news or bad news – which are you proclaiming? Which do you want to?
