Guiao has all-star selection at his disposal

-

Scottie Thompson and Greg Slaughter fit right at home as the Ginebra duo bannered the new additions for the new-look Philippine team when it buckled down to work Monday at the Meralco Gym.

Joining the new faces in the national team cast were Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel, and Magnolia bruiser Ian Sangalang.

The session drew a complete attendance under the newlyappointed head coach Yeng Guiao.

Members of the Philippine team that competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta are also back in the fold, led by Christian Standhardinger, Paul Lee, and Stanley Pringle.

Also set for another tour of duty are JP Erram, Asi Taulava, and the Rain or Shine troika of Gabe Norwood, Beau Belga, and Raymond Almazan.

Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar and Phoenix sniper Matthew Wright, both set to serve their one-game suspensions in the September window, also appeared together with Blackwater sniper Allein Maliksi.

The perfect attendance lived up to the PBA’s promise of giving Guiao a smorgasbord of talent for the next series of games, with the second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers set to begin next week.

The Philippines meet Iran on September 13 in Tehran, before taking on Qatar on Septenber 17 at Smart Araneta Coliseum in a closed-door game. —
