Slaughter-Standhardinger duo against Iran

-

Greg Slaughter has submitted pertinent documents making a possibility his frontcourt team-up with Christian Standhardinger in the Gilas Pilipinas team that faces off with Iran in Tehran on September13.

Gilas team manager Butch Antonio, however, said they’re still awaiting formal approval from FIBA on the eligibility of Slaughter as a regular Filipino player.

But Antonio confirmed that Slaughter “has completed the documents required from him.”

If Slaughter is approved by FIBA as a regular player, national coach Yeng Guiao is to tapped Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle as the naturalized players.

Guiao is planning to use Standhardinger as naturalized player against Team Iran in Tehran, then Pringle is to take over from Standhardinger in the Phl-Qatar game in a closed-door venue in Manila on Sept. 17.

Other players being considered for the Tehran game are Asi Taulava, Raymond Almazan, Beau Belga, Gabe Norwood, Poy Erram, Paul Lee, Alex Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter, Scottie Thompson, Ian Sangalang and Allein Malicsi.

Gilas veterans Japeth Aguilar and Matthew Wright are part of Guiao’s pool, available for the Phl-Qatar match after serving their onegame suspension by FIBA on the Phl-Iran tiff.

Guiao is awaiting formal words from the FIBA on Slaughter’s eligibility before naming his Final 12.

The returning national coach is delighted with all the talents at his disposal.

“We are awed at having the most talented players in the PBA in one building. It’s been a while since the last time we brought together this kind of talents in a team,” said Guiao.

Meanwhile, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio met with NBA deputy commissioner and chief operating officer Mark Tatum in the NBA office in New York to personally thank him and the NBA for giving clearance to let Jordan Clarkson play for the Philippines in the Asian Games.
