Uncle stabs niece, 14

A 14-year-old girl was stabbed by her drunk uncle in Sitio Hikapon, Barangay General Climaco, Toledo City Thursday afternoon.

After the incident, Daniel Cañaliso, 50, also stabbed himself in the abdomen.

Both the minor and her uncle survived and are now recuperating at a hospital in Toledo City and Cebu City, respectively.

According to Senior Police Officer 3 Thule Tahadlangit, case investigator, said Cañaliso reportedly got angry at the teenager for attending a wedding of their relative. The victim was with her mother, the suspect’s sister.

The suspect also attended the wedding.

Cañaliso came home drunk and reprimanded her niece. The friction between the two escalated after the victim reportedly talked back.

“Niuna ni og uli ang victim kuyog ang inahan unya misunod ang suspect, pag-abot sa balay sa biktima kay gikasab-an kini sa suspect nga gitubag pud allegedly sa pag-umangkon,” said Tahadlangit in a phone interview with The FREEMAN.

Cañaliso allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his niece in the chest once.

The suspect reportedly tried to stab the victim again, but was stopped by the latter’s mother.

The suspect is facing a frustrated murder case. —
