'Road to Barcelona' camp begins today

Over 160 aspiring booters from all over the country will take part in a world-class football training camp through the 'Road to Barcelona' today at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Aside from the Cebuanos, the other participan­ts of the twoday camp that will be spearheade­d by coaches Jordi Aguilar Roca and Albert Batalla Fernandez from FCBEscola Youth Football Academy based in Barcelona, Spain ate coming from Manila, Bacolod, Siquijor, Davao and Koronadal, South Cotabato.

Now on its second year, the Road to Barcelona is Milo Philippine­s’ way of bringing great opportunit­ies and building future champions in football.

From the hundreds of participan­ts, seven young players will be selected to be sent to Camp Nou, the home of the famous FC Barcelona, for a nine-day extensive training.

Once in Barcelona, the Philippine delegation will join those coming from Australia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Jamaica, New Zealand, Panama, Singapore, Tahiti, Thailand and Vietnam for a once-ina-lifetime experience in FC Barcelona’s home turf.

“This is going to be life-changing for the participat­ing kids. We hope to inspire and transform more kids to be champions, not only in sports but also in life,” said Milo Philippine­s Consumer Marketing Manager Robbie de Vera in a press conference yesterday at the Cebu Parklane Internatio­nal Hotel.

Aside from the players, local coaches will also get to learn from the camp.

“This is also good for our local coaches. Filipinos are good at imitating and adopting so I expect our coaches to benefit from this,” said Cebu Football Associatio­n (CFA) board member Nimrod Quiñones. —
