MCIA security, help desk, Halloween treats in place
Information and security desks are now in place at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in line with their Oplan Ligtas Byahe in observance of “Undas.”
Avigael Maningo, Corporate Communications officer of GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC), said they projected around 20,000 passengers that would come in and out of the MCIA.
The figure is expected only for domestic arrivals and departure, since there are only few passengers arriving and departing at the Terminal 2 of MCIA around this season.
"Mactan Airport is now on high-alert status," she said, adding that there are already guards and police personnel roving the whole facility.
Medical teams are also on standby. No flights are affected, Maningo said.
The flow of passenges is expected to be heavy around November 1 and 2, because most of them are going home to their respective hometowns and on November 3 until 5, they will be back in the city.
Mary Ann Dimabayao, information officer of MCIAA, said a composite team including personnel from Aviation Security Unit-7 and Airport police, are on standby near the exits and entrances, as well as the departure and arrival areas of the airport.
There are also personnel from Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) that conducted inspections at the baggage area together with the K9 units.
Dimabayao said the inspection, which is conducted regularly in the airport, are part of their security measures to prevent illegal drugs.
MCIAA General Manager and CEO Atty. Steve Yuhico-Dicdican, in a statement, said all security and safety units are placed in heightened alert status for a sufficient 24/7 manning of security personnel and to guarantee immediate response to any untoward incidents within the airport during the holiday period
GMCAC, the private operator managing the terminal building and ramp area of MCIA, aligns with the MCIAA in the implementation of the Oplan Ligtas Biyahe for a smooth, safe, and secure terminal and ramp operations during the forthcoming holidays.
“We are anticipating more passengers travelling with their families in observance of this solemn and deeply-rooted tradition. We ensure to provide an efficient service for them so that they can proceed to their respective destinations safely and comfortably” GMCAC Chief Executive Advisor Andrew Harrison said in a statement.
Meanwhile, GMCAC makes this travel season more fun for the passengers with its in-terminal event called CEBOO.
Inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, CEBOO features a group of cosplayers in calavera costumes and a Mariachi band.
From October 29 until yesterday, passengers interact with the cosplayers, have their photos taken with the calavera skull displays, and receive sweet treats as they pass through MCIA.
Different airlines, retail stores, and F&B shops also participated by decorating their check-in counters and stores
