Miss/Mrs. Top of the World-Plus Size 2018 goes to Cebu
Beauty will save the world, goes the tagline of Miss and Mrs. Top of the World-Plus Size. And on its third year, the beauty pageant tailored to represent plus-size women all over the world comes to Cebu. When Cebuana Jodel Mesina competed for the crown in Singapore last year, she had shared about the beauty of her hometown. Throughout the competition, Jodel – who eventually went home with the crown – and the Philippine delegation composed of her sisters and friends, talked endlessly about Cebu.
Thanks to her stories, pageant founder Kristine Lindenblate decided to grant the franchise to Cebu-based company tt, whose CEO is Jodel, the reigning Miss Top of the World Plus Size. She will thus crown the next Ms. and Mrs. Top of the World-Plus Size queen in her own hometown.
Although currently rounding up their final contestants, 21 delegates from Europe, North America, Asia and Australia are expected to vie for the crown. Another Cebuana, Johanna Ruth Tan from Banawa, will try her luck in the competition in the hopes of giving the country a back-to-back win.
Founded in 2013, the Miss Top of the World franchise, which also has Mrs. Top of the World and Miss Top of the World-Plus Size under their umbrella, began in Riga, Latvia. With the personal development of its candidates in mind, Ms. and Mrs. Top of the World-Plus Size wants to “help everybody remember beauty and promote charity” through the format of the competition. Any female not beyond 35 years old, regardless of civil status may join. So long as you think you’re plus size, then you’re good to go.
This year, the competition officially begins on November 7 in time for the arrival of candidates. In the evening, the Welcome Dinner and parade of National Costumes will take place at the beachfront of BE Resorts Hotel, in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City. The next day, the ladies will have their swimsuit pictorial at the beachfront and a talent showcase at the Kontiki Hall of BE Resorts Hotel Mactan.
On the same day, the candidates will have a personal profile interview which will highlight their personality and wit. Each candidate will be asked to present a short video about their country and themselves. They will also give a speech, share their thoughts about being plus size and the reason behind competing in the pageant.
The Ms. And Mrs. Top of the World-Plus Size 2018 Coronation Night will be held Nov. 9, 7 p.m. at the Capitol Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol building. For the final stretch, the ladies will show off their national costumes, sashay in their bling gowns and present their formal gowns.
After the competition, it’s tourist mode for the delegates who will get to see the sights all over Cebu via a city tour. The party will be visiting locations like Magellan’s Cross, Lapu-Lapu Shrine, Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, Alegre Guitars and SM City Cebu.
For this staging, the Ms. and Mrs. Top of the WorldPlus Size charity goal is to help build classrooms in Uganda for a nursery and primary school.
