The Cebu City Police Office recovered contrabands from the Cebu City Jail during a greyhound operation yesterday dawn.

Seized during the operation were 19 small sachets of shabu, five mobile phones, five rolls of improvised nylon strings, nine disposable lighters, two decks of cards, 26 improvised weapons, two metallic spoons and forks, two metal baras, and 15 pieces of tinfoil.

Police Supt. Leoncio Baliguat, chief of the CCPO Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said the operation was carried out with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

“So far, the greyhound operation was conducted smoothly and gawas sa nauha nga shabu and paraphernalia, wala na’y laing significant oa nga nakuha,” Baliguat said.

Baliguat said the operation, which took about two hours, was in line with the Oplan Linis Piitan, a directive from Philippine National Police (PNP) Director, General Oscar Albayalde.

“We will continue our coordination with the jail facilities aron mahunong na pud ni ang nagkalin-lain ng apaagi sa pagpasud sa contraband,” he said.

Another greyhound operation was also carried out at the female dormitory of the Cebu City Jail last Friday but the raiding team did not recover anything illegal.

Police Regional Office 7 Director Debold Sinas said previously that not only are they intensifying policing ways in the streets by seizing drugs and arresting suspects, but also coordinating with jail officials to enforce security.

This, to prevent further proliferation of illegal drugs outside. Sinas emphasized that mobile phones are often snuck into the jail as they are used by inmates to reach out to the outside world.

Police operatives found out through the latest anti-drug crackdowns that drugs suppliers and even the former leader of a drug group still operate while serving jail time.

To recall, on October 23, cops from the Pardo Police Station accosted three drug personalities who yielded P1.1 million worth of shabu. Their boss, a certain “Brad,” still gave them orders even while serving jail time.

LAPU-LAPU CITY BUST

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City on November 1.

Richard Aying, who is listed under the watchlist of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), was arrested in Sitio Bliss of the said barangay around 10:50 in the evening.

Chief Insp. Jaime Tolentino of the LCPO drug enforcement unit said they confiscated 21 sachets of shabu from him, Tolentino said the drugs seized weighed around 0.84 grams and worth an estimated P9,912. They have also confiscated P400 believed to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.

Aying is facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
