Robbery, theft cases in CV down: PRO-7
More cops will be deployed in major cities in Central Visayas to break the traditional upsurge of crime incidents during the Christmas season.
Although Police Regional Office-7 recorded fewer theft and robbery cases this year, the office aims to further suppress the crime volume.
“Gi-istoryahan ang PDs (provincial directors) and CDs (city directors) nga magdugang og mga police sa kalsada lalo na sa mga commercial establishments para at least naa’y police visibility,” said PRO-7 Director Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas.
PRO-7 data showed that theft cases reduced to 3,024 or 30.1 percent from January to October this year compared to the 4,324 in the same period last year. The robbery cases, on the other hand, decreased to 1,074 or 42.9 percent from 1,881.
Cebu City posted the most number of theft cases in the region at 1,385, followed by Cebu province (916), Bohol (854), Negros Oriental (538), Mandaue City (360), Lapu-Lapu City (253), and Siquijor (18).
Cebu province, on the other hand, registered the highest number of robbery cases at 610.
Other robbery cases were reported in Cebu City (440), Bohol (403), Negros Oriental (143), Lapu-Lapu City (138), Mandaue City (128), and Siquijor (19).
Sinas said the personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) and cops assigned in regional headquarters will also be deployed during the yuletide season to help increase police visibility.
“Temporary ra sad na, kuhaon na pud sila after,” he said.
The PRO-7 recently deployed two RMFB teams in drug-infested barangays of Cebu City as part of the Cebu City Police Office’s (CCPO) crime prevention.
The villages include Pasil, Calamba, Duljo Fatima, and Ermita.
Senior Superintendent Royina Garma, CCPO director, said more policemen are needed in these barangays.
“We will not pull out the police unless the barangays are ready. As of now, they are not. The barangays and their force multipliers should be strengthened first,” she said.
