4th Davies Paints Cup kicks off this pm

Six teams led by de­fend­ing cham­pion Bio-Fresh will fight it out for hard­court supremacy as the fourth edi­tion of the an­nual Ar­chi­tects+En­gi­neers Bas­ket­ball As­so­ci­a­tion's Davies Paints Cup takes off to­day at the Univer­sity of San Car­los (USC)-Main gym.

The event was for­mally launched by the top of­fi­cials of A+EBA led by their pres­i­dent Jun Vil­la­corta, im­me­di­ate past pres­i­dent Rolan Paolo Al­berto and vice pres­i­dent for op­er­a­tions Josephril Par­tosa the other day at Club Filipino de Cebu, FGU tower in Cebu Busi­ness Park.

Be­fore the games, a sim­ple open­ing cer­e­mony will take place at 5:30 p.m. start­ing off with the tra­di­tional pa­rade of ath­letes. The other high­light of the af­fair is the se­lec­tion of best muse.

Out to chal­lenge BioFresh reign are Sun & Rain, Pow­er­floor, Me­gacryl, Mondo Skim­coat, and Liq­uid-Tile.

The con­tenders will play in a sin­gle round robin

elim­i­na­tion for­mat. They will then be di­vided into two brack­ets based on their rank­ings in the play­offs/ quar­ter­fi­nal stage where they will clash in an­other sin­gle round robin.

The top two fin­ish­ers in each bracket will ad­vance to the cross­over semi­fi­nals (A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2). The win­ners will face off each other for the cham­pi­onship in a win­ner-takeall af­fair, while the losers will bat­tle for third place.

Pre­sented by Davies Paints Philip­pines, the three­month tour­na­ment is also backed up by Kohler, Daikin Air­con­di­tion­ing, Tri­mar Con­struc­tion and Trad­ing, and Phoenix Build­ing Sys­tem Cor­po­ra­tion.
