Fewer firecracker vendors this year
Twenty firecracker and pyrotechnic vendors have been given the green light to display their products at the designated selling area at the South Road Properties (SRP) from December 15 to December 31.
They have all complied with the requirements, including permits from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Trade and Industry, and Cebu City government.
They are also required to sell firecrackers with the Philippine Product Standard markings in compliance with the City Ordinance 2290 and Republic Act 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
The number of vendors this year, however, dropped by half from last year’s 40 traders.
The designated area for firecracker vendors is located on a vacant lot near the bridge along the boundary of Cebu City and Talisay City, where the U-turn slot of the Cebu South Coastal Road is located.
City Councilor David Tumulak, chairperson of the City Council’s committee on public order and safety and deputy mayor for police matters, said the space is at no cost to the vendors.
“The space is free of charge,” he said.
Vendors paid P16,000 in rental fees to a private firm, which managed the amusement rides at SRP before, said Tumulak.
Marivic Cose, secretary of the Cebu City Firework Vendors Association, thanked the city government for allowing them to utilize the space for free.
Tumulak warned anew vendors not to sell prohibited products, such as piccolo, super lolo, whistle bomb, goodbye earth and atomic big triangulo.
“Ayaw gyud pamaligya og illegal nga paboto,” he said. —
