The Archdiocese of Cebu has released the list of places where Archbishop Jose Palma will preside over misa de gallo or simbang gabi this year, among which are the landslidehit City of Naga and the firestricken Carbon Public Market in Cebu City.

At least 78 people were killed by the massive landslide in Barangay Tinaan, Naga last September 20. Thus, Palma’s celebration of a dawn mass at St. Agustine Parish in Barangay Langtad at 4 a.m. on December 18 is seen as a fitting occasion to remind Nagahanons, especially those who lost loved ones, to continue to hope despite the tragedy.

At 4 a.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24, Palma will also celebrate a Mass at the Carbon Public Market, which was hit by a fire recently.

Other schedules are as follows: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Minglanilla, December 16 at 4 a.m.;

Camp Sergio Osmeña, December 17 at 4:30 a.m.; San Pedro Calungsod Shrine, Archbishop Palace, December 19 at 4 a.m.; Conversion of St. Paul Parish in Lugo, Borbon, December 21 at 4:30 a.m.; San Pedro Calungsod Parish, Pulangbato, Talamban, December 22 at 4 a.m.; and CCTN, December 23 at 4:30 a.m.

Palma will also be celebrating a Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral prior to his midnight Mass on December 24.

Fr. Japhet Geonzon, Palma's personal liturgist, said four of the parishes where the Archbishop will officiate masses in have sent requests for Palma to hold Masses there.

Geonzon added that the theme of this year's misa de gallo will be associated with 2019 being the Year of the Youth.
