Attending Misa de Gallo? Keep warm

- — May B. Miasco/

Those who are planning to attend the dawn Masses of the Misa de Gallo are warned to bring an umbrella and wear a raincoat or jacket to protect them from rain and cold breeze.

Alfredo Quiblat Jr., Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration-Visayas chief, said there are chances that rains may occur at dawn this weekend and on the succeeding days.

But he said rains may only develop and occur in isolated areas and not widespread all over the province. Rain intensity may range from light to moderate.

Quiblat said clouds might also blanket the starry sky at early dawn.

However, he said there is no weather system, such as a Low Pressure Area, observed near the country or within its peripheries.

During the dawn Masses, many faithful are expected to flock to Catholic churches. The crowd often spills to outside the church.

The Misa de Gallo refers to the traditional nine dawn Masses that prepares the spirituality of every faithful in anticipation of Christmas or the birth of Jesus on December 25. It starts on Sunday (December 16) and ends on Christmas Eve or the 24th.

Moreover, he said air temperature at dawn is expected to drop to 24 degrees Celsius, enough to cool down the atmosphere.

Quiblat said people should take the precautionary measures of keeping themselves warm. He also warned Mass attendees that the temperature is expected to soar and increase gradually from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He said people might easily catch fever or cough and colds as the temperature fluctuates in degrees within the day.
