Man accused of raping 8-yr-old girl faces raps

A 53-year-old man was indicted by the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly raping his eight-year-old neighbor.

No bail was recommended for the accused, who is a resident of Cebu City. The Freeman withheld his name to protect the identity of the victim.

The victim said she was playing on November 24, 2018 at about 8:30 p.m. when the accused came and brought her at the back of their house where she was molested. The victim said the accused offered to buy her a bottle of soft drinks after she was sexually abused.

The victim went home to change her shorts but the mother found a bloodstain. The child confessed to her mother what happened resulting in the immediate arrest of the accused.

According to the child, it was not the first time the accused molested her. She said that during the previous incidents she was given P50, P30, and P10, respectively.

During the inquest investigation, the accused refused to answer the complaint prompting prosecutor Verna Morelos to recommend the filing of the case before the Regional Trial Court. — Mylen P.
