USJ-R lady spikers claim top spot

The University of San Jose-Recoletos successfully took the lead in the women's division of the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) beach volleyball tournament at the expense of Cebu Doctors' University, 2422, 21-10, yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court in Plaza Independencia.

The tandem of Linlyn Torado and Almarie Pacinio were unstoppable as they provided the offensive spark against CDU. With the victory, USJ-R notched its fifth victory in six games.

University of San Carlos, for its part, got a spot in the top four with a 21-8, 21-16 win over University of Cebu.

In the girls action, University of Southern Philippines Foundation belles pummeled UC, 21-9, 21-10, while Southwestern University -Phinma defeated the USJ-R, 21-13, 21-17

USPF emerged as the top team at the end of the girls elimination with an immaculate 4-0 record followed by SWU-Phinma (3-1), USJ-R (2-2) and UC (1-3).
