PRO-7 readies dance, float for Grand Parade

For the first time, the Philippine National Police in Region 7 will participate in the Grand Parade of this year's Sinulog as guest contingent in street dancing and float presentation.

The PNP's float will mirror the relationship the police share with the community while the dancing contingent will be composed of PNP personnel.

It was built starting December by policemen who are inclined to the arts. Police Chief Supt. Dennis Agustin, Deputy Regional Director for Administration, conceptualized the design. The concept will feature the Pershing cap, which signifies leadership and protection.

"Nag-start na kami sa decoration para mahabol namin yung time frame naming. Dapat (January) 16 ready na," said PO1 John Michael Mirasol who is in charge of design and construction.

Mirasol, 30, a father of two, said he was at the crossroads of his life when he sought guidance of the Santo Niño. He was led to the police force but he failed the entrance examination twice. He believes it was his fervent prayers to the Child Jesus that eventually helped him pass on the third try.

Mirasol said he is grateful to be able to share his artistic capabilities, especially that the float is the PNP's offering to the Santo Nino.

Agustin, meanwhile, said each component of the float has its own meaning and significance.

"Sa likod may badge. Yun yung nagsasabi na siya ay pulis. Yun ang nagbibigay sa kanya ng authority. Ang badge ang official symbol ng PNP," Agustin said.

In a broader sense, the float will symbolize the police's continuing service to the public, he said.

"Ipagpatuloy ang serbisyo na walang takot at pabor-pabor, at ang paglilingkod sa bayan. Para sa katauhan, na magtiwala sa kapulisan, at kami ay narito para sa inyo kahit anong oras man," Agustins said.

Agustin is hopeful that the festival will be happy, colorful, and solemn.
