Former president and incumbent House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said she was happy Cebuanos have not forgotten her projects eight years after her presidency.

"I am grateful to the people of Cebu that they recognized and have not forgotten eight years even after I led the presidency," Arroyo said, adding that she is happy that her projects in Cebu’s Fourth District are useful.

Arroyo was in Cebu yesterday to lead the blessing and ribbon-cutting of over a billion pesos’ worth of road widening and concreting in the Fourth District. The funds for those projects were released during her presidency.

These projects are the Don Pedro Rodriguez Highway in Bogo City, the Curva-Panugnawan Road in Medellin town, and the Agujo Road and the Maya Access Road both in Daanbantayan town.

Of those projects only the Maya Access Road is still undergoing construction.

Others politicians who were seen at the event included Fourth District Representative Benhur Salimbangon, former Cebu governor and incumbent Third District Representative Gwendolyn Garcia who is running again as governor, vice gubernatorial candidate Marie Daphne Salimbangon, Provincial Board Member Sun Shimura and wife Kerrie who is running for the PB, and former Daanbantayan mayor Luisa Loot, among others.

Before going to the fourth district, Arroyo attended the Topline Express ferries opening at the Mactan Wharf in Lapu-Lapu City. She also attended a wedding in Daanbantayan.

Meanwhile, Cebu-based businessman Carlos Yeung formally took his oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines as a Filipino citizen before Arroyo. President Rodrigo Duterte signed the bill granting Yeung Filipino citizenship last November 9, 2018.

Yeung is married to Cebuana businesswoman and philanthropist Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung.

The couple was joined by their children, grandchildren, and siblings including Representative Salimbangon and businessman Cesar Salimbangon.
