PRO-7 clarifies stand on cash gifts
The Police Regional Office-7 has put in place a strict policy on cash donations from politicians, both incumbent and running in the May polls, and from “sketchy” businessmen.
“Absolute no, but if tabang didto sa mga police stations, then better… depende man sa politician,” said PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas.
“My directive is to check muna sa background kung legitimate na businessman ba… check if the donation is absolutely no strings attached. We don’t accept if there is a condition or demand,” Sinas said.
Sina’s clarification came after Douglas Luym, owner of Ludo Corporation, donated legal assistance worth P1 million to cops facing charges stemming from legitimate police operations.
Luym is an honorary member of the regional advisory council, which is a community of businessmen and stakeholders from different sectors dedicated in helping cops better their work.
Sinas said at least 27 policemen have received a portion of the cash assistance for attorney’s fees and other legal expenses. At least P15,000 was given to each beneficiary.
Luym said it is his advocacy to help law enforcers in securing the nation.
“I always believed that a strong military makes a strong nation. And a strong police, make a very safe city to live in. I always advocate that as long as the policeman would do their job, and I am always behind to support them, either legally or other things when it comes to things they cannot afford,” Luym said.
Sinas emphasized PRO- 7 may receive monetary support only if there is compelling reason such as, events involving public security.
