OWWA scholarships now open for OFW dependents
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Central Visayas has announced another set of college scholarship programs for overseas Filipino workers’ (OFWs) dependents.
These scholarships are open for children of married OFWs, as well as siblings of single or childless married OFWs, provided that OWWA membership is active.
One of these programs is the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), open for a qualified applicant enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course in any CHED-accredited college or university.
For school year 20192020, the top 400 qualifiers from the upcoming results of the National Qualifying Examination administered by the Department of Science and Technology in October last year will earn a slot for the scholarship.
EDSP scholars will be given an annual financial assistance of P60,000, which covers the tuition fees and other academic expenses.
Another program, which is the OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (OFWDSP), is offered to legal dependents of OWWA members with a monthly salary that is not more than $600.
This scholarship will grant the student P20,000 every year, and has 54 slots available for applicants in Region 7.
Incoming freshmen applicants must be single and not more than 21 years old. They must be grade 12 graduating students by March or April 2019.
Currently enrolled students can also apply, as long as they are single, not more than 30 years old, and without a failing grade.
Twelve slots under this category are available for applicants in the province of Cebu.
For school year 2020-2021, accepting of applications for EDSP will begin April this year.
Incoming freshmen applicants must be single and not more than 21 years old. They must be grade 12 graduating students by March or April 2020, with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 80 percent. They must also be at the top 20 of their graduating class.
Dependents already enrolled in their second to fifth year can still apply for the EDSP.
They have to be single and not more than 30 years old, with a GWA not lower than 85 percent in all academic and non-academic subjects in the last school year attended in full load.
Six slots per province are available for this category.
All scholarship programs offered by OWWA are on a first-come, firstserved basis. —
