CV completes four-peat in PRISAA

Central Visayas successful­ly claimed its fourth straight overall championsh­ip in the week-long 2016 Private Schools Athletic Associatio­n National Games in Davao City.

Region VII athletes emerged as the most dominant contingent after seizing 100 gold, 84 silver and 59 bronze medals. Western Visayas collected 88 golds, 89 silvers and 63 bronzes for the second place, while Davao Region settled for third with 38-56-56 goldsilver-bronze medal finish.

The final day of the competitio­n saw Central Visayas harvesting gold medals in chess, tennis, karatedo, athletics and beach volleyball.

USJ-R’s Felix Shaun Balbona and Allan Pason, University of Cebu’s Neil Andrian Gilig, Cebu Institute of Technology-University’s Paul Dumadapat and University of Bohol’s Mark Villarojo got four golds in chess team event with 20.5 points total.

University of the Visayas’ Norman Joseph Enriquez sealed his bid with a gold in the men’s singles in tennis after outsmartin­g Northern Mindanao’s Kiko Alcantara, 8-6 while teammate Paulo Loreto ended with a bronze as UC’s Clyde Dale Mallari Bienes and Dale Estonilo came up with a bronze in the doubles.

UV men’s beach volleyball team got a fourpeat of its own when they pulled away a convincing 21-11, 21-14 victory against host Davao region in the finals in Tagum City.

The UV-powered men’s basketball failed to defend its crown after a heart-breaking loss to Calabarzon, 108-109 via over-time.

University of San JoseRecole­tos secondary girls’ beach volleyball dominated their division with a 21-5, 5-21, 15-11 triumph against Northern Mindanao in the finals.

Over at the oval, CV's athletics team ended their campaign with a two golds courtesy of USC’s Ruel Alguferra and Jouie Bajan. Alguferra won the 800-meter run, while Bajan reigned supreme in the 5,000-meter walk.

Central Visayas’ karatekas sealed the day with seven golds, three silvers and five bronzes in the senior division.
