Three properties, including a car shop, were destroyed by a fire that hit Sitio Datag, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City Thursday night.

Fire Officer 2 Dennis Bacalso said the fire gutted down the Korean-owned car shop and a house, and partially burned down another house.

Bacalso said the fire started from the car shop’s warehouse at around 9:30 p.m. The fire, which was reportedly caused by a faulty electrical wiring, lasted for about 30 minutes.

The fire department estimated the damage to property at P100,000.

The Lapu-Lapu City Information Office said though the cost of damage excludes the damaged cars, equipment and materials inside the shop.

No casualties were reported from the incident.

But two boys, who have not yet been identified as of this writing, reportedly suffered lacerations on their hands, the information office said.

CASH AID

In a related development, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has distributed a total of P840,000 in cash assistance to 88 fire victims.

It can be recalled that three separate fires razed 12 houses in Barangay Pajo, 60 houses in Barangay Pusok, and 16 in Barangay Looc in June and July.

Chan said each homeowner whose house was totally burned received P10,000, while renters, sharers and house owners with partially-burned houses got P5,000.

With the series of fire incidents, Chan has urged the public to be extra cautious.

“I am asking everyone to be extra vigilant about the danger of fire,” he said.
