Man shot dead in buy-bust

A man was killed while five others were arrested and P9.4 million worth of drugs was seized in three different buy-bust operations conducted in Cebu City, Talisay City, and Lapu-Lapu City recently.

Last Wednesday around 5 p.m. in Purok Rambo, Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City, a certain Rolando Allaba Jumao-as was shot dead after allegedly resisting arrest.

Magbanua, chief of LapuLapu Police Station 3, said that Jumao-as fired first at the policemen upon realizing that he was transactin­g with one during the buy-bust operation.

Policemen fired back at Jumao-as, hitting him four times in different parts of his body.

Based on their investigat­ion, Jumao-as was in the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office drug watch list.

Magbanua also revealed that Jumao-as had been arrested before for his involvemen­t in illegal drugs and for illegal possession of firearms.

Investigat­ors confiscate­d from Jumao-as two grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P13,000.

Around 7 a.m. yesterday another buy-bust operation was conducted in Fortune Plain Village, Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, Cebu, where four persons were arrested.

They were identified as Pouchard dela Cruz, 30, the subject of the operation, Romel Alcansado Fajardo, 33; Cleobert Parecio Suarez, 23; and Jefferson Cala Suarez, 28. Dela Cruz is reported to be a high-value target in the provincial level while the others were labeled as newly identified targets in the drug business.

Seized from them were 25 grams of suspected shabu estimated at P170,000.

In Cebu City around 9 a.m. also yesterday, around P9.3 million worth of suspected illegal drugs was confiscate­d from Renante Villarin, 18; and Josel Anguay, 25, in Barangay Sawang Calero.

Police Master Sergeant Armando Ponce, desk officer of the Pasil Police Station, said that they have to validate if the suspects were part of a drug group, considerin­g the huge amount seized from them. —
