Establishment fined for not disposing trash
The Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) has fined an establishment at the North Reclamation Area for violating the city's environmental ordinance.
City Ordinance 1361 states that it is the moral duty of each and every owner and/or tenant of any unenclosed residential building to clean the area of garbage five meters from the nearest wall of the building.
The establishment was fined P2,000 following reports its construction debris, which were placed in sacks, blocked the sidewalk.
“Failure to clean, wala nila na settle ang penalty sa lugway na gihatag nga seven days,” said CCENRO head, Atty. John Jigo Dacua.
“Ni-commit sila nga ila hipuson… gihipos nila… naabtan og lain nga adlaw, naa na pud. Dili sila seryoso sa ila paglimpyo… dalan man na, agianan sa tawo (They committed to clean but after a few days, the garbage was back… they were not serious with their commitment… that's a road where people pass),” Dacua said.
He reminded the public:
“Dili lang ta mag abusar, dili lang pud magpataka og labay sa ilang basura kay dili kaya sa gobyerno nga magsige limpyo. Dapat it's a twoway process apil ang community (Let's not abuse. We shouldn't leave our garbage just anywhere because the government cannot be cleaning all the time. It should be a two-way process that includes the community).”
In Lusaran, he said, several piggeries have been given citations owing to complaints of bad odor.
“Daghan ni reklamo kay baho na, dili nila matarong og dispose. Gihatagan na sila og citation, nihatag sab sila og commitment (Many complained because of the bad odor. The piggeries could no longer dispose of their wastes properly. They were given citations and they committed to clean up),” Dacua said.
CCENRO called on the barangay and residents to work on mitigating measures to address the issue. CCENRO has committed to conduct an orientation on the proper ways of hog raising.
