Council to DPWH, DEPW: Check, correct traffic signs
Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera has requested the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) to make an inventory of all traffic road signs and correct any “conflicting” signs in the city.
This is in coordination with Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).
Garganera sponsored a resolution on the matter which the City Council has approved last Wednesday.
“The maintenance of keeping road markings visible and in stable condition is vital for road safety and for road users to navigate the road systems, making us aware of upcoming hazards,” said Garganera.
He added that road line markings should be clear to vehicle drivers at all times and must be maintained regularly to prevent vehicular incidents involving pedestrian crossing and traffic congestion.
He said road line marking plays a significant role when it comes to promoting safety in traffic and give important information and instructions to the motorists, drivers, and pedestrians alike about vehicle positioning and road alignment, to name a few.
Garganera added it is imperative for CCTO to supplement such markings to guide pedestrians, passengers, and drivers in order to avoid vehicular accidents.
In the resolution, it was stated that the DPWH was created to undertake the design, construction, and maintenance of national roads, bridges, flood-control systems, and water-resource systems.
The DEPW, on the other end, is tasked for the day-to-day maintenance of the city’s infrastructure services, including sewer maintenance and facility operation, sanitation, street maintenance, city storm and sanitary sewer operations, and emergency response for snow and ice, flood, severe weather mitigation. —
