Around 460 town and city councilors from Cebu are set to join the crowd of 12,000 local legislators during the Philippine Councilors League National Congress in Manila starting on Wednesday amid threat of coronavirus disease 2019.

The Department of Health earlier warned against holding public events in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

The PCL-Cebu Chapter led by its president, ex-officio Provincial Board Member Francis Salimbangon, held an emergency meeting Friday to discuss safety precautions while they are on official travel.

Salimbangon said the PCLCebu Province will be handing out kits such as vitamin C, face masks, alcohol and others to their members before heading to Manila.

“To my fellow councilors, your kits will be delivered to your respective municipalities before your departure dates. See you all there and be safe. God bless!” posted Salimbangon on his Facebook.

Salimbangon told The FREEMAN that the PCL-Cebu Chapter purchased the items included in the kits.

The DOH earlier recommended that the public avoid crowded places and practice self-protection measures, however, the Department of Tourism said that it is safe to hold public gatherings and festivals in the Philippines despite the outbreak of COVID-19.

The three-day event shall be held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to grace the closing dinner and fellowship on Thursday also in time of the proclamation of winners and oath taking of the newlyelected PCL National and Island Officers.
