Don Bosco Technical College punched a ticket to the playoffs of the Under 18 age group of Division 1 of the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL-Cebu) backed by Smart Communications after scraping past Sisters of Mary School-Boystown, 59-55, at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym over the weekend.

The game was nip and tuck throughout the game with the Greywolves finally creating breathing room only in endgame. Down 43-46 at the start of the fourth period, SMS Boystown rallied to tie the game twice at 48 and 50-all.

The Greywolves countered through Soysoy Escobido and Nichole Jay Cabañero to build a 57-52 lead with 3:10 left in the game.

A triple by Ivan James Cabodbod sliced the deficit to 5755, 2:41 left. But Jason Almero iced the game with 1:10 left for the final score as both sides clamped down on each other for the rest of the game.

Cabañero led Don Bosco with a double double of 19 points and 16 rebounds. Escobido added 13 points and four assists. CJay Gonzales led Boystown with 14.

The win, DBTC’s third straight without a loss, assured itself of the top spot with a game to spare in Group A, while SMS-Boystown dropped to 2-1. Boystown goes for the second playoff spot when it battles PAREF Springdale (2-1) in its last assignment.

In another Under 18 Division 1 game, SCSIT (3-2) wrapped up its tournament on a high note, tripping UV Mandaue, 46-33. Jude Betonio led the Skyblazers with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, the UV Passerelle B team (4-0) also clinched the top spot in Group C of the Under 15 Division 1 after thumping One on One (3-1), 59-20. Both teams were already assured of tickets to the playoffs with only the seeding left to be decided. Rasyaj Esperat led UV with 10 points and five rebounds.

In an Under 12 Division 1 game, USC South (2-1) booked the last ticket to the playoffs from Group C after outscoring Dev Pardo-A (0-3), 41-35. Neil Deguit led the Baby Warriors with 11 points, 16 rebounds and six steals. The playoff picture for the Under 12 and Under 15 age groups of Division 1 are now complete.

In Division 2 games, One on One cruised to a 91-46 win over DBTC-B in an Under 18 game. In Under 15 Division 2 games, Panthers A nipped Julzsports, 64-62. One on One A toppled Graphics Points/Toledo C, 50-33.
