Banks appeal for public understanding over limited services
The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) on Friday appealed for the public’s understanding as banking services are limited during the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
“Given the limited personnel that the banks can deploy during the Enhance Community Quarantine in Luzon, we appeal to the public for your patience and understanding in availing your financial requirements during these extraordinary circumstances,” BAP said in a standing.
The bankers’ group made the statement as many experienced difficulty in cashing out from automated teller machines.
BAP, however, assured the public that ATMs are working, financial markets are going, and its members kept some branches open “despite operating on skeletal workforce.”
“We are committed to delivering these services to ensure the continuity of the flow of goods and services which are even more vital at this time,” it said.
BAP said banks are doing exceptional measures to ensure continuity of access to banking services in the “most efficient and sustainable manner.”
“Now, more than ever, the public’s cooperation and understanding are needed and crucial in mitigating this health crisis,” it said.
The bankers group noted that it is in close coordination with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for the smooth implementation of the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.”
“The banking industry is here to support the National Government and do what is necessary to help win the fight against COVID-19,” it said.
BAP, for and on behalf of its member banks, also salutes health workers and is one with them in the fight against COVID-19.
“The nation is indebted to the brave men and women of the health services who risk their own lives to save others,” it said.
The bankers group said it fully supports the efforts and action done by the national government to immediately arrest and contain the spread of the COVID-19.
“We can assure the public that our member banks are here to continuously provide critical services amid difficulties and challenges,” it said.
