Visayan Electric to start disconnecting service

-

By October 1, the power service of consumers of the Visayan Electric in Cebu City who failed to settle their account for at least two months will be disconnected.

Engineer Mark Anthony Kindica, Visayan Electric Assistant Vice President for Customer Service, said they have started the disconnection in other franchise areas since August 4.

“Nadugay ta og pag disconnect kay nibalik man og pagka ECQ ang Cebu City,” said Kindica during the virtual Power Lunch with media yesterday that the Visayan Electric had sponsored.

Based on the July 7 advisory from the Energy Regulatory Commission, distribution utilities or electric cooperatives in Cebu Province, particularly in places that are still under the Enhanced Community Quarantine, were directed not to disconnect the electric services of consumers just on the basis of unpaid ECQ bills until September 2020.

Among the areas whose residents were disconnected from Visayan Electric’s connection include those in San Fernando, Naga, Minglanilla, Talisay, Mandaue, Consolacion and Liloan.

Kindica added that their total collectibles for the month of May amounted to P2 billion, and was reduced to P1.6 billion in July.

Visayan Electric is the second largest electric utility in the Philippines. It serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga and four municipalities of the greater part of Metro Cebu -- Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla and San Fernando. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/GAN
