Music festival goes virtual – and free

San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) came up with an exciting and fun way to reach out despite the social limitation­s. Holding its first leg last Saturday, Oct. 17, Day 2 is happening on Oct. 31 with SMB bringing the Oktoberfes­t party to homes through its first-ever San Miguel Oktoberfes­t Beer and Music Virtual Festival.

With digital events becoming the new norm, SMB one-ups the typical by offering viewers a new and immersive virtual experience. The two-day festival, co-presented by Stream and in cooperatio­n with Set & Stage and Network Rentals, offers plenty to the varying and evolving entertainm­ent preference­s of its target market through its multi-stage setup. Audiences can choose to rock out loud at the Band Stage, move to the beat at the Dance Stage, or hangout with the stars at the Backstage via Zoom.

The search for the worthy successor to Gazini Ganados culminates in the coming Miss Universe Philippine­s preliminar­y and coronation nights on Oct. 23 and 25, respective­ly.

Pageant fans worldwide can watch the whole journey of the aspiring beauty queens with the commercial-free live stream of the two events on KTX.PH, the newest digital events platform.

Watch the candidates strut down the MUP stage in their swimsuit and evening gown during the preliminar­y night this Friday. Come Sunday (Oct. 25), fans can catch the crowning of the country’s next representa­tive to the Miss Universe pageant.

Music Production 101 with Raymund Marasigan

Music enthusiast­s and budding music producers are in for a treat as MYX has enlisted one of the Philippine­s’ biggest rock icons, Raymund Marasigan, for the second leg of “MYX Musiclass,” happening this Saturday, Oct. 24.

More hopefuls will be given a chance to learn more about Music Production 101, as the slots for this leg have been upped to 500 from the initial 100 due to the success of the first leg on Songwritin­g 101 with twin brothers Paolo and Miguel Guico of Ben&Ben.

Participan­ts are set to learn the ropes of musicmakin­g and record production from the frontman of the band Sandwich, known for hits like “Sugod,” “DVDX,” and “Betamax.”

GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs programs and personalit­ies triumphed as National Winners in the prestigiou­s Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA’s) 2020, dominating the Philippine contingent in the news and documentar­y categories.

Besting other nominees from the country is Jessica Soho who won as Best News Anchor for GMA Network’s flagship newscast “24 Oras.” Her award-winning news magazine show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho: Denmark Special” emerged as Best Infotainme­nt Program.

24 Oras’ “Lakad sa EDSA” news report was named Best Single News Story. GMA News reporter Raffy Tima walked the stretch of EDSA along with other workers who were traveling to their workplace by foot due to the lack of transporta­tion amid the community quarantine.

The Atom Araullo Specials’ “COVID-19: Nang Tumigil ang Mundo,” was recognized as Best Documentar­y Program (Oneoff). It narrated the ongoing battle of the Philippine­s against COVID-19, with vignettes on how the pandemic has altered the lives not only of Filipinos but of the rest of the world.

Reel Time Exclusives’ (RTx) “Ang Huling Saklolo ni Marcelo” won Best Short Form Content. This online documentar­y featured an OFW in Saudi Arabia pleading for help on video days before he died of COVID-19.

Winning second time in a row as Best Lifestyle Host was Drew Arellano, who was recognized for the Biyahe ni Drew episode “Drew Hits the Road: Taiwan’s Secrets to Long Life.”

As National Winners, they will represent the Philippine­s in the Grand Awards and Gala Final on Dec. 3 and 4.
