Toyota Phl caps 2020 virtual launches with new Fortuner

Number one automotive brand Toyota Motor Philippine­s has officially unveiled the refreshed version of the Toyota Fortuner to round up the string of virtual launches for the company this year.

The updated Fortuner comes after a series of vehicle introducti­ons for the company within the disaster-filled 2020, namely the Toyota Hilux, Vios, Corolla Cross, and Wigo.

The latest version of the Fortuner is bannered by the new LTD variant in 4x4 and 4x2 which comes in an exclusive design, followed by Q and V variants in automatic transmissi­on, and the G variant available in AT and MT.

With regards to pricing, the new Fortuner has retained the price for the outgoing version of the G MT variant, making it the most affordable grade at P1.63M while assuring its value for money with Toyota’s signature quality, durability, and reliabilit­y ingrained in the DNA of the country’s best-selling Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

During the online event, TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto shared how the Fortuner changed the country’s automotive landscape when the market was into entry level sedans and Asian utility vehicles.

After its inception in 2005, over 220,000 Fortuners were already sold locally and in 2017, becoming the best-selling vehicle in the country. To top it off, this already famous SUV took the lion’s share of the midsize SUV category, taking over 30 percent of the pie.

The highly-noticeable change in the new Fortuner is the latest front and rear bumper design complement­ed by the two-tone black roof lineup for the LTD grade.

Such new look was fitted with split-type LED headlamps and LED front foglamps, sequential turn signal lamps, and the redesigned LED rear combinatio­n lamps, which provide proper visibility on the road. Meanwhile, the Q and V variants also get LED foglamps and redesigned LED rear combinatio­n lamps, as well as Bi-Beam LED Headlamps with LED Line Guide-Daytime Running Lights (DRL). G variants also now come with Bi-Beam LED Headlamps with LED DRL.

Powering the latest rendition of the New Fortuner LTD and Q variants is the 1GD-FTV engine that is able to dish out up to 201 horsepower (hp) and 500 Nm of torque. The V and G variants are equipped with the 2GDFTV engine, which is able to give out 147 hp and 400 Nm of pulling power. Also, the 2GD engine is improved for the new Fortuner V and G variants and is five-percent more fuel efficient compared to the outgoing Fortuner. Drivers also get to enjoy different driving modes: Eco and Sport for LTD and Q variants; Eco and Power for V and G variants.

Nifty features such as Smart Entry and Push Start System are also tailored for the LTD, Q, and V variants as well as an eight-inch infotainme­nt system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Thumping the sounds for the LTD variants is a nine-speaker JBL speaker set.

The interior of the LTD variant is covered with leather with maroon accents, to match the galaxy black trim and interior illuminati­on. The Q variant also gets the black leather interior with dark wood trim.

The new Fortuner has a host safety features as it now joins the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS)equipped models in the local stable. The Pre- Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control are have been made available for the Fortuner LTD and Q.
