Cebu City logged on Monday, May 10, its lowest number of new cases in a day and lowest positivity rate for COVID-19 so far this year.

The city’s Emergency Operations Center noted only 1.45% positivity rate after only six of the 413 tested turned out positive on the same day.

Based on the line list from the EOC, two of the new cases are from Banilad and one each from Apas, Carreta, Talamban, and Tisa.

Of the 80 barangays in Cebu City, 51 have active cases while 29 are now without COVID-19 transmission.

Cebu City’s critical care utilization or occupancy rate – the measure of how burdened the hospitals are – has also fallen under the 20% mark for the first time after 15 public and private hospitals here only registered an aggregate 19.9% occupancy or only 185 COVID-19 beds occupied and 745 others vacant.

“First time our critical occupancy rate falls under the 20% mark. Our 11 private hospitals posted a mere 11.1%. Our daily positive rate is 413 were tested but only six got positive or a mere 1.45%, which is one for the books this year,” said EOC deputy chief implementer and City Councilor Joel Garganera.

Although cases are slowing down further, there were six deaths reported. Thus, Garganera advised the public to continue observing the minimum health protocols.

In the Department of

Health-7’s case bulletin on May 10, Cebu City still has 639 active cases with some of its recoveries still up for validation, along with the other LGUs.
