It’s a go! Mindanao leg of Vismin Super Cup to take off May 30

-

On the heels of its highly successful Visayas leg, another good news came for the Pilipinas Vismin Super Cup.

Last Monday night, the Vismin Super Cup management and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) jointly announced that the suspension of the league’s Mindanao leg has been lifted and that it will start on May 30 with the host to be announced in the coming days.

“The holding of Mindanao Leg, which will strictly adhere to the ‘No License, No Play’ policy, is conditional. It is subject not only to the submission of the regulatory requirements, such as health screening, drug testing, and related documents, as well as on continuing adherence to protocols and closer and stricter supervision of the games,” said GAB Chairman Baham Mitra in a statement.

In lifting the suspension of Mindanao leg, Mitra and commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Mario Masanguid took note of the league’s initiatives to swiftly address the issue and to enforce stricter rules following the controversy that rocked the upstart league stemming from the farcical match between the Siquijor Mystics and the ARQ Builders LapuLapu City Heroes last April 14.

“We are grateful to the League’s officials for their sincerity to undertake the needed reforms for the protection and welfare of professional basketball, the players, and the public,” said Mitra.

“Both GAB and the League knew the challenges when the games were launched – health protocols and game-manipulation being on top of the list. We are just glad that we are able to move forward, thanks to a large part on the professionalism of League management and the sacrifices of our personnel on the field who joined the bubble as supervisors,” Mitra added. —
