BUCKET HATS
Believed to have been introduced in 1900 in Ireland, bucket hats are headgear pieces that have wide, downward-sloping brims.
In the 1960s, a lightweight version of the hat based on a tropical headgear worn by the US Army during the Vietnam War was renewed as a fashion item for ladies. The piece was quite popular to a point that it became a staple in the “mod” subculture – a circa-1950s subculture that got its name from the post-World War II modernist movement.
In 2020 through 2021, personalities like Bella Hadid, Rihanna and Emily Ratajkowski are attributed to have contributed to the bucket hat’s retro-revival appeal, drawing in fashionistas and fashion labels to the headgear’s practical, protective and fashionable points.
